SUMMARY:Historic Copley Depot Open
DESCRIPTION:The Depot and Caboose will be open on the 2nd Saturday of each month through October. \nThe Depot was built in 1891 by the Pennsylvania\, Akron and Western Railroad. It was located at the multiple track crossing on South Cleveland Massillon Road at Sawmill Rd\, north of Copley Circle. \nAfter passenger service was discontinued in 1954\, the Depot continued being used for cargo and freight train traffic. Mr. Wilbur “Hank” Gromann\, station master was charged with managing cargo and freight shipments. He was the station master until his retirement in 1974 and the depot was deactivated and closed. Having no further use for the depot\, AC&Y Railroad offered the building to Mr. Gromann for the nominal price of $1.00 with the stipulation that he move it. When in danger of being destroyed\, a group gathered to save it and the Copley Historical Society was formed. Starting with contributions from the Gromann family\, monies were raised to move the depot to its present location. Years of tender loving care and repair and restoration and preservation bring us to the gem we have today. In 2001\, the depot was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. \nBring the family and ”travel” back in time\, when things moved a bit slower. See where passengers bought their tickets and waited for their trips to start\, where the station master worked – managing the freight\, keeping records\, charting timetables\, selling tickets. See a real telegraph unit\, the cargo/freight area with a heavy-duty scale\, and a replica train whistle. There are many pieces of ”unclaimed freight and mail”… maybe you will recognize a name or two! Walk through the AC&Y 1947 Caboose\, believed to be only one of six surviving from that production year. See where the crews spent their time while riding the rails.

SUMMARY:Monthly Member Meeting: Seeing is Believing
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our monthly member meeting! \nTopic: Seeing is Believing – The Importance of Examination from Other Angles \nSpeakers: Stephen R. Ash\, PhD\, Professor\, College of Business\, The University of Akron \nIn this session\, I will review the psychology of perception and how this impacts business decisions. Leaders of organizations\, like all humans\, are influenced by bias and perceptual traps. These perceptual traps often lead us to conclusions that prevent the review of alternatives. To increase effectiveness\, leaders need to ensure that there are systems in place that help review problems and solutions from more than one perspective. Examples will be provided and discussed. \nDr. Ash joined The University of Akron in 2001. During his time at Akron\, he has served as the Chair of the Department of Management\, Assistant Dean\, Director of Graduate Programs\, and Director of the Fitzgerald Institute for Entrepreneur ship. His research interests deal with organizational attraction\, human error\, crisis management\, diversity\, integrity\, and trust. He has published many peer-reviewed research and practitioner articles on these and other topics. His areas of teaching focus on Leadership\, Ethics\, Managing People\, and Strategy. He has been the recipient of several teaching awards and has served on over 30 doctoral dissertation committees. In 2020 he was part of a team presented with the Read Family Difference Maker Award for the Diversity on Board program. In 2021 he led the team that developed a new strategic plan for the university. Before coming to Akron\, Steve taught at The Ohio State University and Sul Ross State University (Texas State system). \nSteve has consulted for numerous large corporations\, small businesses\, and government agencies. He has also been the invited speaker for many company gatherings and conferences. Prior to pursuing education\, Steve worked as a hod tender\, a long-distance truck driver\, a ranch hand\, a research diver\, and on a squid ship in the Pacific. He also worked for IBM as a human factors engineer. His varied experiences have helped him appreciate the value of education. He is most proud of winning the college chili cooking competition. \nSteve has been a serious amateur photographer for nearly 20 years. \nHis love of nature\, travel\, and outdoor adventure have meshed well with his passion for capturing scenes with a camera. Photographing nature has only deepened his sense of awe about our beautiful world. \nJoin us for networking from 11:30 – 12:00. The meeting will begin promptly at 12:00\, followed by additional networking from 1:00 – 1:30. \nA buffet lunch will be available. Members with included lunch benefits may use their tickets\, while Classic members\, guests\, or anyone requesting additional lunches may purchase buffet tickets for $16. \nThis month’s lunch will be provided by Brighten Brewing Company and will include: \n• Italian Pub Sub\n• Chicken Salad Sandwich\n• Greek Veggie Wrap\n• Caesar Salad\n• Pasta salad \nPlease complete the short form below to let us know if you plan to attend and whether you’ll be enjoying the buffet. You’re also welcome to bring your own lunch if you prefer. The form includes an option to pay in advance (preferred to help us plan and provide a quicker check-in experience)\, though cash and tap-to-pay will also be available at the door. \nMonthly Meetings are free for members. Non-members are welcome to attend one time each year as a guest. Additional meetings are $10/meeting\, which may be paid in advance through the same form. \n\n Member Meeting Lunch Registration \n \n \n Subscribe \n \n \n \n \n \n NameBusiness / OrganizationEmailDo you plan to participate in the buffet lunch? DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce the 12th Annual Kylie Rose’s Run 5K and Family Fun Run! \nAs Kylie prepares to enter her senior year of high school and head off to college next summer\, this will be our final 5K event. What began in 2015\, when Kylie was a young girl facing a pediatric cancer diagnosis\, has grown into something far beyond what we ever imagined. Today\, Kylie is nine years cancer-free and thriving as a high school junior\, full of excitement for the future ahead. \nWhile this race may be our last\, our mission and nonprofit is not ending—it is evolving. We remain deeply committed to supporting local families\, funding hospital needs\, advancing research\, and continuing our Bags of Love program. \nBUT!!!\, this final 5K is our opportunity to celebrate 12 incredible years of impact. We are more committed than ever to making this the most inspiring – with a goal of 1\,000 participants. With more local families facing recent diagnoses\, it’s more important than ever to show them they are not alone. \nJoin us for this unforgettable final run—register today. \nThe stadium will be filled with games\, activities\, food\, and celebration! You do not need to be a runner\, and you may decide just to hang out\, but register and support these families!
